On Thursday last week (19 August), some of our forum administration settings were accidentally reset, locking out Forumosans. It took us over half an our to get our heads around the situation and correct it. Apparently, we did not go far enough.

We didn’t realize that the accident may have also reset the New Forumosan Activation system. Normally, new registrants are required to email us answers to 4 questions. Only human beings are able (and willing) to do such a step. This semi-manual process worked beautifully, and we were able to block SPAM robots from entering and posting on Forumosa for years.

When the activation settings were reset, the SPAMbots started creeping in. We failed to link this inexplicable failure of the system to the lock out of last week.

The past month has been a very busy one in terms of web development at Forumosa. Our testing and development are likely to have caused the forum setting glitch last week. Fortunately, we are developing new processes that will help making using (and administering) the website more effective and easier. We’ll post more about these exciting developments soon.
